HISTORY OF WET SHAVING AND WHY IT IS GAINING BACK POPULARITY

Wet shaving has its roots centuries ago where men went to barbers for clean wet shaving. At the time it was not common to shave indoor due to lack of water indoors which is why this was often done in the open air.

Men were using straight razors for wet shaving up to around 1900 when King Gillette invented the Gillette razor we know now. Other manufacturers copied the designs and developed other double edge razors in the market, but Gillette was the first to introduce disposable razors which made the trade much more hygienic.

Gillette became the number one producer of wet razors until the 60s when competitors upped their game introducing stainless steel razors. These razors not only lasted longer but shaved better.

Cartridge safety razors were introduced, which became a major success to Gillette as he also developed twin blade cartridge. The market well received twin cartridge as it is said to shave better since the first blade cuts the hair and pulls in from the follicle while the second blade works to cut the hair even shorter.

Today, multiple blade razors have gained even more popularity as the market is once again becoming accustomed to wet shaving.
While electronic shaving has been popular for years, it is now losing the charm and popularity previously gained.

People have perfected the technique of lathering up soap and shaving closely using twin or multiple blades then rinsing for a clean shave.

Why Wet Shaving is Gaining Popularity

For a number of years, men had run away from wet shaving and embracing electronic shaving as it was fast. Also, electronic shaving did not need to use water or shaving foam. However, most people have awakened to the many benefits of wet shaving that they have gone back to it. This is because of the realization that wet shaving reduced the chances of getting bumps and it hydrates the skin. Electronic shaving instead dries it out.

More people are embracing the art of wet shaving which is done in three steps. These are: pre-shave, the shave and post shave.
During pre-shave you prepare the skin for shaving, this is where you soften the whiskers in preparation to shaving. Men are advised to first take a shower before shaving as it hydrates the skin.

Next, it is the actual shave that involves lathering up the shaving soap using a brush or using shaving foam and letting it sit for about a minute. During shaving, you need to take caution to ensure that you do not cut yourself using the razor. Post shaving involves rinsing using water; first warm then cold and applying a topical antiseptic to prevent any infections.
